Behind-the-Scenes of a Marketplace Morning Report Interview

I had the good fortune to be asked to do an interview last week with NPR's David Brancaccio, one of the two hosts on the excellent show Marketwatch. He offered, up front, to let me re-word any thoughts that I didn't like and explained he would be editing it down to about 5 minutes of air time. With this in mind, he said our interview would last about 10 minutes. He finally cut us off after 27 minutes, but stayed online to talk for another half an hour....

Opting Out: A Modest Proposal

I was speaking at Credit Suisse’s Annual gathering of Conservation Finance professionals in New York a few weeks ago (a quick aside: there are some REALLY smart, innovative people doing some REALLY smart, innovate work in the field of conservation finance… which — if you appreciate things like wetland preservation, sustainable timber harvesting, agricultural land rehabilitation, riparian zone restoration, apiary habitat and an astonishing range of related strategies — should make you feel just a wee bit better about our collective future).

Matthew Weatherley-White is interviewed by Kathleen Hays on the Bloomberg radio show Taking Stock. Occurring just a few “brutal” weeks into 2016, the global financial community is sweating as they attempt to anticipate how the decoupling of the U.S. central bank, rising interest rates, declining demand for U.S. exports, and the uncertainty surrounding oil will play out in the near (and distant) future.

Headwinds and Tailwinds

Hyperbole does not sit easily with me. Far too many rely far too heavily on its rhetorical power to win arguments rather than to seek essential truths. So it is with frustration that I read the hyperbole that has been spackled onto the post-COP21 world.
